8 Popular Feng Shui Symbols and Their Significance

by Wesley Chan 27 Dec 2024

Feng Shui symbols are widely used in modern home decor, but do you truly understand their meanings? In Feng Shui, symbols serve two primary purposes: attracting prosperity and abundance or neutralizing negative energy to promote balance and harmony.

Here’s a guide to the most popular Feng Shui symbols and their significance:

1. The Three-Legged Money Frog

One of the most iconic Feng Shui symbols, the Three-Legged Money Frog, is believed to bring wealth and abundance. For optimal effect, place it on an elevated surface in your home's wealth area, avoiding direct placement on the floor.

2. The Success Horse

The horse represents success, speed, wealth, and loyalty. Place it in your wealth sector to boost career and business opportunities. To symbolize wealth flowing into your home, ensure the horse’s head faces inward.

3. Mandarin Ducks

Mandarin ducks symbolize love and romance and are often displayed in pairs. Use them to attract romantic luck by placing them in the love and marriage sector of your Bagua map or in your bedroom.

4. Bagua Mirror

The Bagua mirror is a powerful Feng Shui tool used to block or deflect harmful energy (Sha Qi). However, it should be used cautiously, ideally with guidance from a Feng Shui expert. Avoid facing it directly toward neighbors to prevent reflecting negative energy onto them.

5. Lucky Fortune Cat

The Lucky Fortune Cat is a popular symbol for attracting wealth luck. Commonly seen in offices, shops, and homes, its raised paw and color carry specific meanings. Choose the right version to align with your goals.

6. Scepters (Ru Yi)

The Ru Yi scepter is a symbol of authority, power, and good fortune. Its name means “everything goes according to your wishes,” making it an auspicious addition to homes or offices to inspire success and harmony.

7. Laughing Buddha

Known as the “Buddha of Wealth,” the Laughing Buddha is a global symbol of happiness and abundance. Tradition suggests rubbing his belly daily to bring good luck and make your wishes come true.

8. Calabash (Hu Lu)

The Calabash, or Wu Lou, is a highly favored Feng Shui symbol. Its shape, with a small mouth and round body, is believed to collect and retain positive Qi. It is also said to absorb negative energy and can be used to counteract Feng Shui hazards, such as proximity to hospitals or temples. Internally, it can help maintain harmony by addressing issues like infidelity.

These symbols are readily available online and in stores. When incorporating them into your space, select items that resonate with you and align with your intentions to enhance positive energy in your home.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
